Burkhart Nets Career-High in Bloomsburg Win over Cheyney

BLOOMSBURG - Kelly Burkhart (Sayre/Athens) scored a career-high 23 points as the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team won an 81-42 contest over Cheyney University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match up.
The Wolves held the early edge in the game, 5-2, after a three-pointer from Darah Webb with 16:13 to play in the opening half. Bloomsburg, though, responded with a 13-3 run to go in front 15-8 with 11:08 left. Leading the rally for the Huskies was Jamies Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) with six points.
Later in the half with the Huskies in front 22-15, Bloomsburg went on a 9-2 run to go in front 31-17 and went into the locker room leading by 16 at 36-20.
In the second, the Huskies continued their dominance going ahead 44-22 behind six straight points by Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven /Schuylkill Haven). Bloomsburg would extend its lead to 40 points at the three minute mark on a jumper by Gabe Miskinis (Lewistown/Lewistown) and the Huskies ended up on top with a final score of 81-42.
For Cheyney, Martina Randall had seven points and seven rebounds while Ashley O'Donnell and Webb each added 6 points.
The Huskies were led by Burkhart's 23 which included five three-pointers while Miskinis added a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Kirby Johnson (Woodstown, NJ/Glocuster CC) added 11 points and Kegerreis chipped in 10 to round out the scoring for Bloomsburg.
Cheyney drops to 5-19 (1-8 PSAC East) on the season while Bloomsburg improves their record to 6-17 (3-6 PSAC East).
The Huskies will travel to Mansfield for a 5:30 start on Wednesday, February 15th.
